Welcome to the Montford Middle School Band! We currently have 150 students enrolled in 5 different class periods including: Band 1, Band 2, Band 3, and Percussion Class. Band will be a class in your student’s daily schedule at the middle school level! We get to make music every single day! Our program is a 6th-8th grade curriculum, offering students a musical journey that fits their experience and ability levels. Students entering 6th grade or joining band for the first time need not have any musical experience! We will start from the very beginning of music reading and instrument pedagogy. As students continue in our program, they will have the opportunity to progress to Band 2 (called Concert Band), Band 3 (called Symphonic Band) and for 8th graders, there is even a high school credit level of band available. While students can begin their band adventure in any grade, starting in 6th grade best ensures students have the opportunity to succeed at the highest level in our program. Joining the band is simple, just make sure it is one of your two top elective choices during course selection, and we will take care of the rest! Our Band 2 and Band 3 classes are very active in performances. We have multiple performances at school each year, perform for several atheltic events including football, volleyball, and basketball, and are actively involved in Florida Bandmasters Association events such as Solo and Ensemble and MPA. You’ll find a few videos of some of our recent performances below!
For Band 1 students, extra curricular expectations are minimal. We have no required rehearsals outside of school hours, and kids will perform at 3 school concerts each year. Use Band 1 as your chance to decide how much you love music!
